My name is Ian Corkill and I would like to welcome you to my website. I am a graduate of the of the BSc Computer Games Programming (including a placement year) course at De Montfort University.
You will find examples of my work, a record of my education/work experience and links to other helpful sites to gain more information on my skills and knowledge.

My name is Ian Corkill and I am a graduate of the BSc Computer Games Programming course at De Montfort University, who was awarded a First-class degree including a placement year.

I am the designer and developer of titles such as “It’s Feedin’ Time”, “Schism of the Mind” (work in progress), and “Good Clown, Bad Clown” (work in progress). Trained in the use of modern proprietary engines such as Unity and Unreal Engine, with a strong focus on object oriented programming in C# and C++.

My passion for programming arose during COVID, where I took the opportunity to enroll at De Montfort University to study Computer Games Programming. My passion for playing games propelled me to this decision, as I wanted to know the intricacies of how they are created and to one day, create my own games.

Within my placement year, as a spatial audio artist in residence, I was trained in the use of industry wide software such as Pro Tools, Reaper, and Apple Logic Pro to record and mix music/foley, as well as how to setup live recording studios, utilise physical mixing desks, and recording techniques through different microphone setups and polar patterns.

I undertook a number of projects during my placement year:

  • Creating a prototype for a local Leicester based museum in which users could experience the sounds of the local Roman baths as they traversed exterior site
  • Assisting PhD students and academics with programming tasks such as creating a multiplayer mixed reality environment that synchronizes 3D spatial audio for all users in a local experienced simultaneously
  • Assisted with organising and hosting the first incarnation of the Spatial Audio Gathering, a space for academics and students to showcase their spatial audio work for exposure and review to the wider spatial audio community around the world
  • Software testing conducted within the MTI research labs to ensure that all software/speaker setups are working correctly
  • Creating and running bespoke 3D spatial audio workshops to encourage non-game related courses to consider a career within the games industry as sound designer

In addition to this, I have six years of experience as an executive relations officer within the car rental industry, with a focus on the following tasks:

  • Customer complaint resolution for those escalated to the CEO and Management Board, as well as those to the UK governing bodies (BVRLA and ECRCS)
  • Assisting customers with their loyalty scheme queries, ensuring that benefits worked correctly and that customers were provided with information on the scheme and how best to use their rewards
  • Monitoring social media to resolve live complaints via message/public posts
  • Conducting subject access requests (SARs)
  • Quality assessment of customer services agents
  • Assisting with recruitment events, conducting interviews, tests, etc.
  • Conducted software testing for automated branch payment software

I am an amateur baker, who likes to experiment with different flavour combinations and to make my bakes as inclusive of different intolerances/lifestyles as possible.
I enjoy organising and attending events such as the BBC Good Food Show/Gardener’s World Live, The Cake and Bake Show, Comic-Con London, UKGE, and Insomnia Gaming Festival, as well as trips abroad, most recently to Dublin and Florida.
I regularly attend the gym three times a week to remain motivated in keeping fit and healthy, coupled with daily walks.
